Heating Mat & Cable Thermostat

The thermostat does exactly what it is supposed to do. There is a lag in thermal transfer from the heat mat to the soil, and that is normal, but you need to keep it in mind when you set the temperature. The thermostat will cut off when it reaches the setting, but the heat mat will still be warm, and the temperature of the soil will continue to increase a few degrees before it starts to drop. On the other end, the thermostat will turn the mat in as soon as the temperature drops below the set temperature, but the mat will take time to start warming the soil so the temperature of the soil will drop some degrees below the setting before starting to rise.

After purchasing a 24"x30"x48" tall cold frame for our unheated sun room (Southeastern PA), I knew that I needed both heat and control. This unit controls two 20"x20" seedling mats to perfection. This unit provides continuous readout of the cold frame temperature and indicates when the mats are powered to provide heat. It takes the guesswork out of temperature control and the orchids love it, which makes my wife very happy.
